Pak, Afghan, Uzbek Officials Discuss Trans-Afghan Railway Project

ISLAMABAD: A delegation from Railway Authorities Afghanistan held a meeting with officials from Pakistan’s Railway to discuss Trans-Afghan Railway Project. The Trilateral working group meeting was held here at the office of the Ministry of Railways in Islamabad on Thursday.

The meeting was Co-chaired by Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, Additional Secretary from Pakistan Railways, Alhaaj Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, Director General from Afghanistan and Mr Kamalov Akmal Saidakabarovich, Acting Deputy Chairman from Uzbekistan who participated in the meeting through video link.

Railway Project

The 8th meeting discussed the importance of the program, progress made on the initial technical assessments, and future steps for early initiation of the feasibility study. The proposed project will attach Pakistan to Central Asian Republics by connecting the existing Railway link at Mazar-e-Sharif with the Pakistan railway network.

The project would not only facilitate regional and bilateral trade amongst the participating countries but would also provide space for better people-to-people connections to the entire region.
