ISTANBUL: At least 53 people died in Turkey after a major 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southeast of the country on Monday, said local officials.
The officials said 23 people died in the province of Malatya, seven in Osmaniye, 17 in Urfa, and six in Diyarbakir. The toll is likely to climb much higher because of the intensity of the quake. — AFP
