New Rain-Bearing System to Hit Pakistan Today

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that a fresh rain-bearing system could enter Pakistan on Saturday, bringing rain and snowfall to many cities. 

The Met Office said that the system could be laced with rain and snowfall in different places in the country. The rains-giving system was expected to remain active for two days. The Met Office said during these days’ landslides could also occur. 

An extreme cold wave persisted in northern places of the country, the Met Office said. Muzaffarabad, Swat, and Neelum Valley were covered with white snow blankets. Mercury in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is below zero after the snowfall. 

Met Office on fresh rain system

The Met Office has predicted fresh snowfall and rains in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow. These snowfalls and rains could continue till Sunday night. 

The PDM has asked the departments concerned to take precautionary measures well in advance given the expected rains, snowfall, hailstorms and land sliding. 

The PMD said that the connecting roads in northern places could be blocked due to rain, snowfall, and land sliding. Hazara Division’s roads and Malakand could also be choked after rain and snowfall. The PMD has asked the district administrations to ensure the heavy machinery and availability of light. 

The Met Office has also forecast light rain in northern and central parts of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province for the next three days. The plain places could receive hailstorms along with snowfall and rain. PMD has said tourists must be kept informed about evolving situations.  The Met Office said that rains could also lash Lahore on Sunday and Monday.
