BEIRUT, Lebanon: Fresh Israeli strikes were reported across southern Lebanon on Saturday night, hours after earlier attacks killed six people, raising concerns over the durability of a recently extended ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Lebanese state media said the new wave of strikes followed orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “forcefully attack Hezbollah targets” after the military accused the group of breaching the truce.
Earlier in the day, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that “Israeli enemy strikes on a truck and a motorbike in the town of Yohmor al-Shaqeef in the Nabatieh district killed four people”. A separate attack “on the town of Safad al-Battikh, in the Bint Jbeil district, resulted in two fatalities and 17 injuries”.
Escalation after ceasefire tensions
Israel’s military claimed it had “eliminated” several Hezbollah operatives, including individuals travelling in a vehicle allegedly carrying weapons and others in separate incidents.
In response, Hezbollah said it targeted an Israeli military vehicle in retaliation for the strike on Yohmor al-Shaqeef.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported additional strikes across multiple southern districts, including Bint Jbeil, Tyre and Nabatieh, as hostilities intensified.
The renewed violence comes despite a ceasefire announced earlier this month, with tensions remaining high along the border. Authorities say Israeli attacks have killed at least 2,496 people in Lebanon since early March, highlighting the ongoing human toll of the conflict.
