BEIJING, China: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, announced that the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) is ready to be opened, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan-China relations. Gifted by the Chinese government, the airport symbolizes the enduring friendship between the two nations and is poised to become a crucial hub for air transportation, connecting various regions.
Prof Iqbal highlighted the airport as a flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He emphasized that with the training Pakistani staff will receive in China, the NGIA will evolve into a vital gateway for regional connectivity. Recognizing the importance of skilled manpower, 20 Pakistani officials have commenced Multi-disciplinary Training Courses in
China. The China Airport Construction Group is leading this program, which aims to transfer technical and operational knowledge to Pakistani staff, enabling them to manage the airport independently. This initiative is the first of its kind, focusing on enhancing the technical, administrative, and managerial expertise of NGIA personnel.
The NGIA comprises 32 components, including a state-of-the-art runway, aprons, a terminal, and various civil, technical, electrical, and communication infrastructures. This comprehensive setup ensures that the airport is equipped with all necessary facilities to operate efficiently. As a symbol of Pakistan-China cooperation, the NGIA stands as a testament to their shared vision of regional development and connectivity.
