BRUSSELS: NATO has said that it had appointed a top official to lead the alliance’s work in Ukraine as part of a broader effort to intensify help for Kyiv as it fights Moscow’s invasion.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Patrick Turner, a British official who has held senior positions inside NATO, will work as the alliance’s Senior Representative in Ukraine.
Stoltenberg said. “I am sure the new official will excel in this significant role as NATO alliance continues to step up its support to Kyiv,”.
At a summit in Washington earlier, NATO leaders made agreement that the alliance would take on a major role in coordinating defense aid and training for Ukraine.
While NATO as an organization does not provide lethal aid to Kyiv, many of its members are leading suppliers of ammunition and arms to Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces.
