MWL Mourns Imam Who Died in Shooting in US

MAKKAH: The Muslim World League (MWL) has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Sheikh Hassan Sharif, the Imam of Muhammad-Newark Mosque in New Jersey, US who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in front of the mosque on Wednesday, Arab media reported.

The masjid officials said that a gunman approached the Imam who just finished leading the pre-dawn Fajr prayer and shot him. Police officials said the Imam was rushed to the hospital where he passed away later in the afternoon.

The General Secretariat of the MWL, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and head of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the Imram, the members of his mosque, and the Muslim community in the United States (US).

Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa reaffirmed that the MWL is vigilantly monitoring the current situation and expressed confidence in the US authorities to arrest the attacker and ensure justice is served. He emphasized the MWL’s promise to fostering unity among the American people and to thwart any criminal action that disrupt ethnic diversity, and societal harmony.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa concluded with prayers for the departed soul, beseeching Allah to shower His mercy upon the late imam and to provide his family with patience and comfort during this time.
