SYDNEY: Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), has underscored the importance of diversity, coexistence, and international cooperation during a high-profile visit to Australia, where he met senior officials and addressed community leaders.

During his visit, Dr. Al-Issa held talks with Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn, at Government House in Sydney, focusing on shared values of tolerance and mutual respect. The meeting reflected a broader commitment to fostering dialogue between cultures and strengthening ties between Muslim communities and wider society.

He was also received by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils at its Sydney headquarters, in a gathering attended by federal and local ministers, as well as members of parliament. The event provided a platform for engagement on issues concerning multiculturalism and social cohesion.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, in his address, Dr. Al-Issa spoke extensively about religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity, outlining Islam’s perspective on peaceful coexistence. He emphasised that diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than division, calling for collective efforts to promote understanding and harmony among different communities.

The MWL chief also highlighted the organisation’s global initiatives aimed at strengthening interfaith dialogue and fostering cooperation among nations. He pointed to its partnerships with international bodies, including the United Nations, as part of ongoing efforts to counter hatred, racism, and extremism.

Praising Australia’s multicultural framework, Dr. Al-Issa commended the country’s ability to maintain social cohesion while embracing diversity. He described it as a model for other nations striving to build inclusive and harmonious societies. His visit forms part of the MWL’s broader outreach to promote peace, dialogue, and mutual respect across different regions of the world.
