ISLAMABAD: After the storming of Brazil’s Congress, Supreme Court and the presidential palace by the supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro, more than 1,200 people have been arrested across the South American country.

The new president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva vowed to punish those involved and condemned the acts of terrorism.

Bolsonaro is yet to accept electoral defeat and prior to the ceremony for presidential handover, he flew to the United States. Unverified reports suggest he is admitted to a Florida hospital.

Lula along with the head of the Supreme Court and Congress have condemned the malicious acts carried out during the attack. They rejected, what they termed as, criminal and terrorist acts and coup-enabling vandalism.

During the out-of-the-ordinary events, thousands of demonstrators wearing Brazil’s football jerseys and flags ransack the Brazilian state’s most important buildings with police watching helplessly.
