Mongolian President Issues Decree to Rebuild ancient Capital

ULAN BATOR: Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh issued a decree on Thursday to rebuild the country’s ancient capital of Kharkhorin. The city is also known as Kharkhorum.

The decision was made to make it easy for the citizens to live in a healthy and safer environment, enhance their access to basic social services, reduce urbanization, ensure balanced regional development and reestablish the valuable historical and cultural heritage of the city.

The ancient capital Kharkhorin

The ancient city Kharkhorin is located in the territory of the central province of Uvurkhangai, over 300 km west of the country’s present capital Ulan Bator.

The country’s current capital Ulan Bator, a city of over half of the country’s 3.4 million population, has been facing challenges of traffic jams, air pollution, and housing.
