RIYADH: In a bid to boost food security and protein diversity, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has recently hosted a workshop for broiler pigeon breeders.
The workshop also aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals and also seeks to increase domestic production of this valuable poultry, the SPA reported.
The workshop designed to equip breeders with the knowledge as well as skills necessary to raise broiler pigeon production to 16 million birds annually, equivalent to 12,000 tons of meat. According to the SPA, by increasing production and adopting latest and modern breeding techniques, the ministry also expresses hope to boost food security and decline reliance on imports.
The ministry also emphasized the significance of collaboration with Saudi universities to carryout research that supports the productive and economic aspects of broiler pigeon breeding.
The ministry of environment also sees boiler pigeon breeding as a promising project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to its contribution to food security and its potential to preserve natural resources. By investing in this field, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) aims to achieve its national targets while promoting sustainable agriculture.
