JEDDAH: Located in the Muhammadiyah district, a busy area in the city with many cafes and restaurants, Mariam Cafe is regarded as one of Jeddah’s hidden beauties.
The Café has set a new standard for local establishments. Even the building itself is a work of visual art. The decor of the building is quite interesting as there are many things to look at, including a book corner where many Saudi artists hang their paintings. The Cafe is owned by Badr Khashogji, who converted a portion of his home into the business, which he named after his eldest daughter, Mariam.
For those who prefer to sit outside to enjoy fresh air, the Cafe offers both indoor and outdoor sittings. Those preferring to work on their laptops inside can also listen to music that has been specifically selected to complement the environment.
The cafe offers many seating options for the people who prefer to sit at the bar or the others who plan to stay for a while. Mariam Cafe offers a broad range of coffees like andalusia, macchiato and espresso varieties as well as sweets.
Visitors can take pictures inside the establishment as it is decorated with statues and art. Though not very large in size, the cafe attracts a lot of visitors who later share their experiences on the social media.
Given that the Cafe’s most expensive coffee costs SR18 ($8.80), the prices are lower than average. The Arab News reported that the site lacks toilets, which can be a disadvantage for the visitors who travel to the cafe from outside the neighborhood. Due to the growing demand for its coffee, Mariam Cafe has also started online delivery at www.qahwatmariam.com.
