ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives, Abdul Raheem Abdullah, has appreciated Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and stability, a statement issued by Pakistan’s military media wing said on Thursday.
During a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, he expressed his desire to deepen bilateral engagement and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, including regional security and bilateral cooperation, were discussed.

Field Marshal underscored the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with the Maldives and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening these ties for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The two South Asian nations enjoy close and friendly relations, with defence and security cooperation forming an important part of bilateral ties.
The two countries have strengthened collaboration through military training, capacity-building, maritime security and professional exchanges.
Islamabad has also supported the training of Maldivian defence personnel, while regular high-level defence engagements have provided opportunities to enhance cooperation and address shared security concerns in the Indian Ocean region.
