KABUL: A leading international Non-Governmental Organization’s women officials have restarted their duties in some areas and province in Afghanistan, Western media reported on Tuesday.
Aid Organization’s Women Staff Resume Work in Afghanistan
Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of Norwegian Refugee Council said, “I am happy to confirm that we have been able to restart most of our humanitarian work in Kandahar and other provinces in Afghanistan,”.
In a statement via tweet, he said, “All our work is for men, women, boys and girls alike, and with equal participation of our male and female humanitarian coworkers,”.
It comes after Egeland visited Kandahar last month where he announced that authorities had said to consider a “temporary deal” to permit women to resume work.
“This new arrangement ensures the supply of much-needed help while the officials finalize national guidelines to enable and ease women’s participation in humanitarian operation,” Christian Jepsen, an official for the NRC, said on Tuesday.
The United Nations has earlier reported that the Afghan Taliban is working on guidelines to provide further clarity. The authorities in Afghanistan said that the ban was imposed as rules were not observed by the staff.
Earlier, in a statement, the UN’s mission in Afghanistan said that the ban undermines its work” and that lifting ban was necessary.
The statement added that they must remain focused on their objective to support and help the people of Afghanistan. It added that it could not disengage despite the challenges.
