PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron has demanded a “lasting ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip during a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, his office stated, as an escalating humanitarian catastrophe grips the Strip.
In a statement, Macron’s office said that Paris will work in the next days in cooperation with Amman to conduct humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip.
President Macron told the Israeli Prime Minister of his “deepest concern” regarding civilian deaths and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, AFP reported.

Macron also insisted on the significance of steps to end violence by Israeli extremist settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and stop new planned settlements.
Crisis in Gaza
The Gaza Health Ministry stated that Israeli troops had killed around 195 Palestinian people and injured 325 in the last 24 hours, bringing the recorded death toll to more than 21,110, with 55,243 injured in Israeli assaults in the coastal Palestinian territory since Oct. 7.
Meanwhile, Jordanian King Abdullah II and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Wednesday that they rejected any Israeli attempt to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, official media reported.
During a meeting in Cairo, Egypt, the two leaders “reiterated their complete rejection of all moves to liquidate the issue of Palestine and forcibly displace Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza,” a statement on the Jordanian news agency said.
