PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Local residents foiled a suicide bombing attempt targeting a mosque during Friday prayers in Lakki Marwat district of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, local sources said.
According to local sources, the suicide bomber, identified as a terrorist of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group, was trying desperately to reach the mosque with the intention of carrying out a deadly attack on worshippers.
The timely and courageous action by local citizens successfully neutralised and killed the attacker before he could penetrate the premises, local sources said.
However, the explosive material attached to the suicide attacker’s motorcycle detonated, resulting in the martyrdom of a five-year-old girl and injuries to five other individuals, including children.
The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, local sources said.
Meanwhile, soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched a comprehensive search operation against terrorists.
Following the incident, strong public anger and outrage have gripped residents of Lakki Marwat against the terrorists.
Pakistan has repeatedly highlighted that the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terror factions continue to operate with impunity from Afghan soil.
Pakistan has experienced a surge in terrorist attacks, many planned in Afghanistan. The Taliban regime is accused of providing safe havens to terrorist groups.
Pakistan has repeatedly demanded that the Taliban regime take verifiable action against terrorist groups based on Afghan soil and involved in cross-border terrorist attacks.
