ISLAMABAD: Lithuania has appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.

The views were expressed by the Lithuanian delegation during the eighth round of Bilateral Political Consultations held virtually on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on April 8 that halted the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

On April 11, Pakistan hosted high-stakes direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.

The Islamabad Talks concluded without a final agreement; however, they paved the way for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran to permanently resolve the conflict.

During the Pakistan-Lithuania Bilateral Political Consultations meeting, the Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Secretary (Europe), Ambassador Ayesha Ali, while the Lithuanian side was led by Vice Minister Vidmantas Verbickas.

“The two sides undertook a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, including political relations, trade and economic ties, people-to-people contacts, consular matters, and multilateral cooperation,” the statement said.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

They placed particular emphasis on strengthening trade and economic ties through greater business-to-business engagement, private-sector collaboration, and cooperation in IT and digital services.

Facilitate people-to-people contacts

The two sides also discussed ways to facilitate people-to-people contacts, including visa and consular matters, as well as the mobility of professionals, students and businesspeople.

On multilateral cooperation, the two sides reviewed their close coordination. They also exchanged views on important regional and global developments.

“Both sides agreed to maintain the momentum of bilateral engagement and continue close coordination on matters of mutual interest,” the FO said.

The next round of Pakistan-Lithuania Bilateral Political Consultations will be held on mutually agreed dates.
