LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has dismissed a plea filed by ex-Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar challenging his suspension by the federal government.

LHC judge Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir declared the petition non-maintainable after hearing it for an hour.

The LHC judge said that the Supreme Court has the authority to hear such a petition.

Dogar pleaded that he was being politically victimised amid the ongoing wrangling between federal and Punjab governments.

The counsel for the suspended cop said that his client was being targeted for taking legal action against a federal minister.

Meanwhile, the federal government’s counsel said that Dogar was directed by the federal government to report (to the establishment division) in three days but he did not oblige and he was also served a show-cause notice.

Dogar approached the LHC against his suspension on Monday with a plea that the federal government was targeting him over the registration of terrorism cases against two federal ministers at the Lahore’s Green Town Police Station.

Dogar has maintained that the Punjab chief minister has the authority to remove a CCPO and the provincial government has asked him to continue working.

He has also contended that by issuing his transfer orders, the center has attacked the autonomy of the province.

On October 28, the federal government, via a letter, ordered the Lahore CCPO to report to the establishment division within three days. However, the Punjab government refused to relive his services.
