ISLAMABAD: Virat Kohli completed a unique achievement during his match-winning century against Pakistan, notching up an ODI ton in each country he has played in.
Pakistan put up 241 batting first, courtesy of Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan’s (46) 104-run stand in the middle overs and a 38 from Khushdil Shah towards the end of the innings, according to Wisden.
Virat Kohli then anchored India’s chase, going past multiple milestones – becoming the fastest to 14,000 ODI runs, before overtaking Ricky Ponting to enter the top three for most international runs.
Kohli guided India to victory in the 43rd over, hitting a boundary off Khushdil Shah to bring up his century, taking his score from 96 to 100, with just two runs remaining to win.
Which countries have Kohli scored ODI hundreds in?
This was Kohli’s first century in the UAE, achieved in just his second innings there. With this feat, he becomes the first player to score an ODI century in all 10 countries he has batted in: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and now the UAE.
Kohli is the fourth player to register an ODI century in 10 different countries, joining Sanath Jayasuriya, Sachin Tendulkar (who has 12), and Chris Gayle (10). As of now, no other batter, male or female, has scored ODI centuries in all the countries they have batted in.
