ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has welcomed the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing the province’s deteriorating law-and-order and governance situation, rising terrorist attacks and growing political confrontation.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and senior vice president of PML-Q, said the federal cabinet’s decision to advise the president on imposing an emergency under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution was prompted by the worsening security situation and a lack of cooperation by the provincial government.
“The disruption of educational activities, government institutions, and daily life is alarming for the people of the province, particularly the future of the younger generation,” Salik said.
He said terrorist attacks had increased in the province between March 2024 and September 2026, while police and security forces faced emerging threats, including drone and explosive attacks.
“An emergency situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa arose due to rising terrorism, security lapses, and political non-cooperation,” Chaudhry Salik Hussain said.
Chaudhry Salik said that the law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become alarming due to increasing terrorist incidents, a decline in police capacity, and the provincial government’s lack of cooperation.
Chaudhry Salik said vacant police positions, shortages of modern equipment in southern districts and limited surveillance capabilities required urgent attention.
He stressed the need for coordination between federal and provincial authorities, action against terrorists and their facilitators, and modern equipment for the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
The minister said political differences should not obstruct counterterrorism efforts. He added that the government’s objective was not to undermine any political mandate but to restore lasting peace and protect the lives and property of the public.
Meanwhile, PML-Q Central Information Secretary Ghulam Mustafa Malik and the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president, Intikhab Khan, discussed the province’s political, administrative and law-and-order situation.
In a statement issued after their discussion, the party said interruptions to educational activities, government offices and daily life were alarming, particularly for students and young people.
Intikhab Khan said the provincial government should have prioritised public grievances, education, health and administrative responsibilities rather than protest-oriented politics. Political activities, he added, should not impose further hardship on ordinary citizens and students.
The PML-Q leaders said restoring peace, strengthening governance and ensuring the functioning of public institutions should take priority as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces security challenges.
