ISLAMABAD: In a spectacular performance at the ongoing FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Pakistan secured a convincing 4-0 victory against New Zealand on Thursday. Arshad Liaqat’s outstanding hat-trick played a pivotal role in the triumph.
From the very start to the finish, Pakistan showcased top-notch gameplay, with Liaqat making significant contributions in the 19th, 30th, and 54th minutes of the match. His exceptional form put Pakistan in a commanding position. Skipper Abdul Hanan Shahid added to the lead by scoring a goal on a penalty corner in the 32nd minute.
Looking ahead, Pakistan is set to face Belgium on December 9 in their final group match. The tournament, hosting 16 teams from around the world, places Pakistan in Pool D alongside the Netherlands, Belgium, and New Zealand.
Defending champions Argentina share Pool A with Australia, Malaysia, and Chile. Pool B consists of Egypt, France, Germany, and South Africa, while Pool C includes Canada, India, South Korea, and Spain.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, promising fans more thrilling matches as teams compete for supremacy on the international stage.
