AMMAN, Jordan: Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized that the kingdom will not become a battleground for conflicts between Iran and Israel, as tensions in the region escalate following the targeted killings of senior figures from Hamas and Hezbollah. Safadi made it clear in an interview with Al Arabiya TV that Jordan has explicitly informed both Iran and Israel that any violation of its airspace or threat to its citizens will be met with forceful interception.

Jordan, strategically located between Iran and Israel, has already experienced the repercussions of the ongoing conflict. In April, the kingdom intercepted flying objects entering its airspace during a retaliatory attack by Iran, following an alleged Israeli strike on Iran’s embassy compound in Syria. This incident underscored Jordan’s precarious position in the regional conflict.

The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Palestinian group Hamas, in Tehran, and the subsequent killing of Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut have further fueled fears of a broader Middle Eastern conflict. Iran, blaming Israel for these killings, has vowed retribution, raising the stakes in an already volatile situation.

Safadi’s statements reflect Jordan’s determination to maintain its sovereignty and protect its citizens from becoming collateral damage in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. As tensions continue to rise, Jordan’s clear message of neutrality and self-defence will be crucial in navigating the challenges posed by the escalating situation in the region.
