AMMAN: Jordan’s Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh underscored the displacement of Palestinians as a “red line,” characterizing it as a fundamental violation of the peace treaty between Jordan and Israel.

In a statement, the prime minister emphasized the treaty’s crucial provision that safeguards against forced population movements, deeming any such displacement a threat to Jordan’s national security and a dissolution of the Palestinian issue.

Khasawneh issued a stern warning, asserting that if the displacement of Palestinians were to occur, the peace treaty between the two nations would lose its meaning. He voiced Jordan’s solidarity with Egypt in rejecting any forced removal of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, expressing concerns about setting a precedent for similar actions in the West Bank.

Jordan Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Two-State Solution

Furthermore, Khasawneh highlighted King Abdullah’s unwavering support for a two-state solution and cautioned against neglecting this approach, foreseeing potential regional violence if it is disregarded. He declared Jordan’s stance on the status quo of Al-Aqsa Mosque as another “red line,” signaling that any attempts to alter it would have consequences.

Addressing energy concerns, Khasawneh revealed that Jordan is exploring alternative options in the event of a halt in the supply of liquefied natural gas from Israel. While affirming Jordan’s commitment to contractual obligations with Israel, the prime minister stated that discussions are ongoing with other Arab countries to secure alternatives.

Despite the absence of any indication of a gas supply disruption, Jordan is taking proactive measures and has a gas reserve sufficient for 65 days.
