TOKYO, Japan: Japanese residents visit Yushima Tenmangu Shrine in eastern Tokyo to enjoy the blooming plum blossoms, one of the earliest signs that spring is approaching. While cherry blossoms attract most attention in Japan, plum blossoms are cherished for their delicate flowers, subtle fragrance and long cultural history. “It is a pure flower of clear beauty. I don’t know how to describe the brilliance of this pink… it gives an impression of softness, delicacy, something tender”, retiree Yuki Tsunemi tells AFP.
