ISLAMABAD: A ceremony for the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreements between the Governments of Pakistan and Japan took place at the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Thursday.
These agreements pertain to two significant Japanese grant-in-aid projects: “Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City” and “The Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh.”
Under these agreements, the Government of Japan has allocated additional grants totaling JPY 832 million (US$ 5.4 million) for the Sukkur City Weather Surveillance Radar project and JPY 671 million (US$ 4.4 million) for the Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities extension in Sindh. These funds are provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to enhance the capabilities of the Pakistan Meteorological Department in meteorological observation and weather forecasting, as well as to bolster medical services at the Children’s Hospital and MCH center in Liaqat University Hospital, Hyderabad/Jamshoro, Sindh.
The Notes of the projects were signed and exchanged by Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), and WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, representing their respective governments.
The Grant Agreements were signed by Saeed Ashraf Siddiqi, Joint Secretary of EAD, and Naoaki MIYATA, Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan.
Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their invaluable support and pledged to facilitate further meaningful cooperation between the two nations.
WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan reiterated his commitment to working closely with the Government of Pakistan to strengthen friendly ties and bilateral cooperation.
