ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Italy have agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to develop a joint strategy to fight narcotics and organised crimes.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Italian counterpart, Minister Matteo Piantedosi, in Islamabad.

Both sides held discussions on trade, security, and issues of mutual interest, agreeing to deepen cooperation in areas such as security, counter-narcotics, human trafficking, and the fight against terrorism, Radio Pakistan reported.

The Italian Interior Minister reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Pakistan in counter-terrorism, anti-narcotics operations, and efforts to combat human trafficking.

He announced that an Italian delegation would soon visit Pakistan to work on strengthening border security.

Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that cracking down on illegal immigration and its facilitators remains a top priority for Pakistan.

He also briefed his Italian counterpart on India’s recent act of aggression, carried out the previous night, and shed light on the motives behind the attack. The meeting underscored the need for meaningful efforts to de-escalate tensions.

The Italian Interior Minister expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of Pakistani civilians and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

Mohsin Naqvi said India blatantly violated international law by targeting civilian populations, but Pakistani armed forces gave a befitting response to Indian aggression and destroyed five enemy fighter jets.

He said Pakistan has been warning the world about India’s dangerous designs from day one and held India responsible for destabilising the regional situation.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, during a meeting with Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad, stated that India has endangered peace in South Asia and undermined regional stability.

He underscored that India had violated international law by deliberately targeting civilians.

Naqvi added that while Pakistan responded effectively to defend its sovereignty and exercised maximum restraint, it remains firm in not compromising on national security.

He also highlighted that Pakistan had previously warned friendly nations about India’s dangerous intentions.
