FRANKFURT: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that he is against a new nuclear power debate in the country, German media reported on Friday. He expressed these views during an interview with German radio station Deutschlandfunk.
Issue of Nuclear Power is a Dead Horse: German Chancellor
Scholz said, “The issue of nuclear power is a dead horse in the country,”. His remarks come as Scholz’s ally, FDP, demanded the country must keep a nuclear option.
For new nuclear plants to be constructed, investment and significant time would be needed, the German Chancellor said, estimating at least $16.16 billion would have to be spent per plant over the next fifteen years.
On the widely debated matter of an industrial electricity rate cap in Germany, Olaf Scholz expressed doubt how this could be sponsored, naming choices including taxpayer money and debt.
