DUBLIN: Rebecca Stokell produced an unbeaten half-century as Ireland Women chased down a challenging target to defeat Pakistan Women by seven wickets in their T20I tri-series match at Castle Avenue on Sunday.

Ireland reached 177-3 in 19.1 overs, successfully chasing Pakistan’s total of 176-6 with five balls to spare to register their first win of the tournament.

Stokell anchored the chase with an unbeaten 60 off 42 deliveries, striking seven boundaries.

She was well supported by opener Amy Hunter, who laid the foundation with a fluent 56 from 44 balls, including seven fours and a six.

Captain Orla Prendergast then accelerated the scoring with a brisk 33 not out off 17 deliveries, hitting six boundaries to steer Ireland across the finish line.

Chasing 177, Ireland recovered from early setbacks through a crucial partnership between Hunter and Stokell.

Hunter played positively from the outset and kept the required run rate under control before reaching her half-century.

Stokell then took charge in the latter stages of the innings, finding regular boundaries to keep Ireland on course.

Prendergast provided the finishing touches with an aggressive cameo as the hosts completed the chase in the final over.

Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to contain the Irish batters despite making early breakthroughs.

Ayesha Zafar was the most successful bowler, taking 2-24 from three overs, while Rameen Shamim claimed one wicket.

Muneeba shines for Pakistan

Earlier, Pakistan posted a competitive 176-6 after being asked to bat first, thanks largely to an impressive innings from opener Muneeba Ali.

Pakistan made a strong start through Muneeba and Gull Feroza, who added 44 runs for the opening wicket.

Feroza scored a quickfire 32 from 15 balls, striking six boundaries before being dismissed by Ava Canning.

Ireland struck again soon afterwards when Arlene Kelly removed Ayesha Zafar for six, reducing Pakistan to 49-2.

Muneeba and Saira Jabeen then rebuilt the innings with an 88-run partnership that put Pakistan in a commanding position.

Muneeba was the standout performer, scoring 65 from 41 deliveries.

Her innings included eight fours and three sixes and brought up her sixth T20 International half-century.

The partnership ended when Alana Dalzell dismissed Muneeba after a well-crafted knock.

Saira Jabeen continued to contribute before falling to Canning for 36 from 33 balls, including four boundaries.

Captain Fatima Sana added valuable late runs, scoring 21 from 14 deliveries with two fours before she was dismissed by Prendergast.
