TEHRAN: Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to visit Türkiye as well as Syria, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday, adding that the plans were being finalized.
Addressing a weekly press conference in Tehran, Kanaani said that Raisi’s visit to Türkiye was under plans since he took office two years ago and is currently “being finalized.”
The Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin was also quoted saying last week that the Iranian president would be visiting Ankara “in the next few weeks.” He added the planned visit was delayed due to “certain reasons,” adding that the protocols were being discussed between the two sides, with the visit expected in the coming weeks.
The presidents of Iran and Türkiye last met on the side-lines of the 22nd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan last September.
Both countries expected to strengthen Bilateral ties during the visit
Experts believe that Raisi’s upcoming visit to Ankara will serve as a follow-up to the Turkish leader’s visit to Iran last year and help the two sides to strengthen cooperation on bilateral and multilateral fronts.
The issues expected to be discussed during the visit include Syria, Afghanistan, Caucasus, and threats posed by terrorist groups to the two countries, according to sources. – APP
