TEHRAN: Iran is set to begin connecting its national electricity grid with Qatar’s in the near future, as part of broader efforts to enhance regional energy cooperation, according to the country’s Energy Minister.
Speaking on Tuesday, Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi said that feasibility studies for the project are in their final phase, with implementation now moving into the initial stages. The announcement was reported by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

Aliabadi further noted that Tehran is simultaneously exploring additional plans to interlink its electricity network with other Gulf states, signalling a wider strategy to strengthen energy exchange and regional grid integration across the Middle East.
The proposed Iran–Qatar electricity interconnection is expected to improve energy security, facilitate power sharing during peak demand periods, and potentially support more stable electricity supplies across the region once operational.
While specific technical details and timelines for completion have not yet been disclosed, officials indicate that the groundwork is progressing steadily, marking a significant step in cross-border energy collaboration between Iran and its Gulf neighbours.
