GENEVA: Iran and the United States have concluded a round of technical-level discussions in Switzerland, with both sides agreeing to establish four specialised working groups to advance negotiations on key political, economic and nuclear-related issues, according to Iranian state media.
The talks, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, held amid renewed diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington, focused on laying the groundwork for future negotiations rather than reaching a final agreement.
Iranian officials described the discussions as constructive and said the next phase would involve detailed engagement through dedicated expert groups.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the negotiating teams had agreed to create four working groups tasked with addressing sanctions termination, nuclear affairs, reconstruction and economic development, and monitoring and implementation mechanisms.

The establishment of the groups is intended to provide a structured framework for tackling the complex issues that have long hindered progress between the two countries.
Officials indicated that technical experts from both sides would continue discussions within these forums in an effort to identify areas of common ground and develop practical solutions.
While neither side announced a breakthrough or final settlement, the conclusion of the technical talks marks a procedural step forward in the broader diplomatic process.
The formation of specialised committees is expected to facilitate more focused discussions on issues ranging from sanctions relief and nuclear oversight to economic recovery and compliance measures.
The latest round of engagement comes as international stakeholders closely monitor efforts to reduce regional tensions and revive a sustainable channel of dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
Further meetings are expected once the newly established working groups begin their respective deliberations. No timetable for the next round of negotiations was immediately announced.
