TEHRAN: Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs has said that more than 3,400 people were killed during the recent conflict with the United States and Israel, marking the latest official revision of casualty figures as a two-week ceasefire continues to hold.

According to foundation head Ahmad Mousavi, as quoted by the semi-official ISNA news agency on Saturday, a total of 3,468 “martyrs” had died during the war, which erupted in late February following US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.

The updated figure shows a slight increase from an earlier toll released on April 12 by the head of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organisation, who had reported 3,375 deaths.

Independent estimates, however, vary significantly. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported on April 7 that at least 3,636 people had been killed in Iran, including 1,701 civilians, among them at least 254 children, alongside 1,221 military personnel and 714 individuals of unclassified status.

Due to restrictions on reporting and access to affected areas, international agencies, including AFP, have been unable to independently verify casualty figures or visit strike sites inside Iran.

The conflict, which has caused widespread destruction in parts of Tehran and other cities, remains politically sensitive, with official narratives differing from external monitoring groups on the scale of human losses.
