NEW YORK: Iran and Israel have blamed one another at the UN of being the main threat to the regional peace, each calling on the UNSC to impose sanctions on their enemy, western media reported.
Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani told the UNSC meeting that Saturday’s attack on Israel was “precise, only attacked military objectives and was conducted carefully to minimize the potential for escalation and prevents civilian damage.”
The envoy added that it is time for the UNSC to Shoulder its duties and responsibilities and address the real threat to global peace and security.
On the other side, Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan told the UNSC that Iran has exposed its true face as the destabilizer of the world and the region. He asked the UNSC to impose sanction on Iran.
Earlier, Iran on Saturday launched a strike at Israel in retaliation against an Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria which killed around seven revolutionary guards, including two commanders.
Earlier, Iranian officials had warned that Israel would be “punished” for the attack on its consulate in Syria.
