International Conference on Smart Materials and Material Science Kicks Off at AIOU

ISLAMABAD: A two-day international conference on “Smart Materials and Material Science” at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) began on Saturday.

Speakers stressed the need to strengthen linkages between academia and industry for the country’s development and broader economic interest.

They added that this initiative would also assist in developing new business models, as economic stability is impossible without it.

The speakers lauded Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas for his scientific services at AIOU and congratulated him for organizing this conference.

International conference to strengthen medical science research

The Department of Physics, AIOU arranged the conference. Pakistan’s nuclear scientist Dr NM Butt was the chief guest on the occasion of the conference’s opening ceremony.

Other speakers included Syed Javed Khurshid, Dr Asghari Maqsood, and the Department of Physics Chairman, AIOU, Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas.

Dr NM Butt, while presenting a research paper on nanotechnology, said that revolutionary changes would take place due to nanotechnology in the field of technology and science in the 21st century.

He said human life would face an unimaginable revolution, and companies worldwide have started making different products while employing nanotechnology.

He noted that we must prepare our coming generation as technology is evolving rapidly.

Dr Asghari Maqsood, while presenting a research paper on smart materials and material science, called the X-ray machine the great invention of medical science.

Dr Asghari gave a detailed lecture on X-ray machine radiation, reflection, X-ray equipment and X-ray machine operation. Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas explained the aims and objectives of the conference.

He said this is the 135th conference of the Department of Physics in the last 12 years; the Department of Physics has produced 600 MPhil and 10 PhD scholars in this short period, while 35 PhD scholars are currently enrolled.

He added that Scholars from 3 international and 70 national universities would present papers at this conference. – APP
