QUETTA, Pakistan: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that India is providing money and weapons to terrorist groups based in Afghanistan to carry out terrorist attacks in Pakistan, adding there was “no doubt” that the country’s eastern neighbour was fully involved in supporting terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a high-level Balochistan Provincial Apex Committee meeting on the National Action Plan in Quetta, the Prime Minister said India was providing funds, weapons and other support to terrorist groups, whose terrorists were launching coordinated attacks in Pakistan from Afghan territory.

The Apex Committee meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, senior military commanders and heads of law enforcement agencies.

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah also attended the meeting.

Addressing the Apex Committee meeting, Prime Minister Sharif said they had gathered in Balochistan after “very serious incidents took place in the past four days”, resulting in the martyrdom of policemen, soldiers and civilians.

Prime Minister Sharif said that security forces have killed 54 terrorists while responding to those attacks and in subsequent operations. “This war against terrorism will continue until the last fasaadi terrorist in Pakistan is eliminated,” PM Sharif affirmed.

Prime Minister Sharif said there was “no doubt that our eastern neighbour is fully involved in this fitna (menace) in all aspects”.

“They are providing money to these terrorists and their groups, as well as providing weapons. These terrorists in Afghanistan collectively conduct attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” PM Sharif said.

“Likewise, there are also some khariji hands, about which I do not want to say anything further here,” the prime minister said, echoing the military spokesman’s recent comments that India and “forces with India” had a hand behind the terrorist attacks.

Prime Minister Sharif added, “But one thing is decided: it is a mutual and singular decision of the civil and military leadership that we must end terrorism collectively.”

He said the Fitna Al Khawarij (FAK) had the “heinous objectives” of damaging the respect garnered by Pakistan globally, “whether they are the diplomatic successes or the four-day war of May last year”.

Pakistan’s government uses the term “Fitna al-Khawarij” (FAK) to refer to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group and its affiliates.

Prime Minister Sharif said that the “enemy was unable to digest the respect” and therefore, it was finding ways to “create difficulties” for the country.

The Prime Minister noted, “The brave soldiers and officers of the armed forces rendered sacrifices and sacrificed their blood, along with law enforcement agencies and innocent civilians.”

He affirmed that the “entire nation stands firmly” with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, expressing hope that the sacrifices will ultimately pay off by the eradication of terrorism.

The prime minister arrived in Quetta earlier in the day for a brief visit to chair the meeting regarding the law and order situation.

Governor Mandokhail, Chief Minister Bugti and senior civil and military officials welcomed PM Sharif upon his arrival, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and PM’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah are accompanying the premier on the visit.

A day earlier, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that 42 people, including 11 soldiers, 27 police personnel and four civilians, were martyred in three separate attacks carried out by Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and Fitna Al-Hindustan (FAH) in Balochistan.

Addressing a press conference, Lt Gen Chaudhry said security forces subsequently launched intelligence-based and follow-up operations, killing 54 terrorists.

He said India and Afghanistan were behind the attacks, saying that it was the handiwork of India and “those forces with India who cannot tolerate Pakistan’s respect, prosperity and stability”.
