RAWALPINDI: Cricketer-turned-Pakistan politician Imran Khan has agreed to reconsider the expulsion of outspoken Sher Afzal Marwat from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over repeated discipline violations.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that, during a meeting with Imran Khan, he requested a review of Marwat’s expulsion decision. “In today’s meeting, I requested Imran Khan to reconsider the expulsion decision, and he agreed to review the matter within a week,” said Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
Earlier, PTI issued a notification, endorsed by PTI Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi, announcing Marwat’s suspension. However, Barrister Gohar Khan disputed the validity of this notification, labeling it as “fake.”
The PTI leadership is divided over Marwat’s expulsion. According to the notification, Marwat’s membership was terminated due to his disregard for party rules and discipline, which allegedly harmed the party’s image and narrative.
The notification also suggested that Marwat should resign from his National Assembly seat and seek re-election if he truly valued his honor.
On May 11, Marwat received a show-cause notice from PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan for allegedly violating the party’s code of conduct and making statements detrimental to the party’s reputation. He was given three days to respond.
