Islamabad: Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva called the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif over the telephone and expressed her deep sympathy and concern on the tragic human and material losses due to the recent devasted floods and reiterated her commitment to helping Pakistan in this difficult period.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Managing Director for her concern about the consequences of the floods and extended an invitation to her to participate in the Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference in Geneva.
Kristalina Georgieva thanked the Prime Minister for the invitation but explained that as the IMF Board meetings had been scheduled for the 9th and 10th of January, she will only be able to join the conference virtually.
Pak Commitment to IMF Program
The Prime Minister assured the Managing Director of IMF that Pakistan is committed and resilient to successfully complete the ongoing IMF program and thanked Kristalina Georgieva for her understanding and empathy of the challenges that Pakistan has been facing in recent times.
