ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday refrained authorities from arresting Imaan Mazari, the human rights lawyer, in any fresh case.

Mazari is now protected by a court order that Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb issued in a two-page written judgment, stopping any further arrests of her. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Secretary, Inspector General (IG), and Director General (DG) were all given formal instructions by the court not to detain Mazari after her release from custody.

IHC further ordered the Interior Secretary to refrain from assisting the FIA or the police in apprehending Mazari. Additionally, the government must ensure Mazari stays within the boundaries of the capital city. The petitioner’s mother, Shireen Mazari, worried her daughter would be detained again after being released on bail in a third case.

To evaluate the many cases filed against Mazari by Monday, the Interior Secretary has been tasked with coordinating with provincial authorities. Imaan Mazari had previously been the subject of three arrest warrants from the Islamabad Police, and in two of them, she was granted bail in the city.
