ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s interim bail in the Toshakhana case.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Amir Farooq, heard Imran Khan‘s bail plea and approved interim bail till March 9 in the Toshakhana case.
The bail comes hours after a local court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.
Earlier in the day, an additional district and sessions court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the Tosha Khana case.
Additional district and session judge Zafar Iqbal pronounced the verdict after the former PM skipped the hearing, with his lawyer seeking another exemption for the PTI chief’s personal appearance in the case amid security concerns.
Toshakhana case against Imran Khan
The local court resumed proceedings on a complaint filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to launch criminal proceedings against Khan for concealing Toshakhana gifts retained by him when he was the country’s prime minister.
According to the ECP reference, the PTI chief had deliberately concealed the material facts by not disclosing the details of the gifts received by him, and Khan also made an ambiguous and evasive statement in his written reply that the gifts purchased by him during the financial year 2019-20 were further gifted by him or on his behalf to others.
Earlier in the day, the former prime minister secured interim bail in the terrorism and prohibited funding cases after arriving at Islamabad’s judicial complex to attend hearings.
