IAEA Appreciates Pakistan’s Support for Nuclear Security Cooperation Program

ISLAMABAD: Elena Buglova, International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Director for the Division of Nuclear Security (NSNS), has appreciated Pakistan’s support in the implementation of the IAEA-Pakistan Nuclear Security Cooperation Program.

Buglova, who along with her team is on a visit to Pakistan from January 17 to 19, appreciated Pakistan’s Center of Excellence (PCENS), National Institute of Safety and Security (NISAS), and Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS) for the capacity building of national nuclear security organizations. She lauded the steps taken by the country with regard to nuclear security in accordance with the IAEA recommendations.

While on her visit to Pakistan, Buglova met Chairman PNRA, Faizan Mansoor and Chairman PAEC, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar. During the meetings, she was briefed about the achievements of the IAEA-Pakistan Nuclear Security Cooperation Program. While the opportunities for future collaboration were also discussed during the meeting.

She also visited various training facilities at the NISAS and PCENS.

IAEA-Pakistan Nuclear Security Cooperation Program

Pakistan is among the founding members of the IAEA.

In 2005, the country signed the ‘Nuclear Security Cooperation Program’ with IAEA to enhance the effectiveness of its Nuclear Security Regime, through the agency’s support.
