NEW DELHI: Tripta Tyagi, a teacher from Uttar Pradesh, has produced a video in which she emphasizes that she did not instruct children to slap their Muslim classmates out of racial or ethnic motivation.
She repeated that she “made a mistake” and asked for forgiveness with folded hands. “I made a mistake, but there was no Hindu-Muslim agenda,” the 60-year-old teacher and principal of Muzaffarnagar’s Neha Public School said in the video message.
“I wanted to ensure the kid remembered his lesson because he hadn’t completed his homework. Tripta Tyagi said she had a disability. She explained, “I was unable to get up, so I instructed some kids to slap him a few times so that he would start studying.
The elderly woman said that her video had been altered and spread to “create a Hindu-Muslim issue,” and she is now facing a police investigation.
“I confess my mistake while holding my hands in front of me. But I didn’t have a Hindu-Muslim divide in my mind. Numerous Muslim students’ parents are unable to pay the school fees. I provide them with free education. I didn’t mean to harm Muslim kids in any way,” she said.
Tripta Tyagi is accused of intentionally inflicting harm and insult to cause a breach of peace after the boy’s family filed a police report. Both offenses do not result in an immediate arrest and are subject to bail.
According to state education department officials, the school has been closed for now, and its children will be transferred to nearby schools.
The boy’s father told NDTV that his son was distraught following the incident and could not eat for a few days. After the terrifying encounter, he had also begun babbling at home. According to his father, the boy is improving after a medical examination.
