Heatwave Conditions to Continue in Southern Regions of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that mainly hot and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country, while very hot in southern parts.

In a press release, the PMD said that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in Sindh, south Punjab and parts of Balochistan till 18th April. However, a westerly system is likely to enter upper parts on 16th evening, and likely to affect till 20th April.

A local TV channel cited the PMD as saying that temperatures are likely to be 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal in Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana. It added that strong winds were likely to blow in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot and Hyderabad.

Precautionary measures

Earlier, the Met office said that general public especially children, women, and senior citizens, are advised to take precautionary measures due to rising temperatures in central and southern parts of the country. The people have been requested to avoid exposure to sunlight during the daytime and get hydrated.

Farmers are also advised to manage their crop activities (wheat harvesting) keeping in view the weather conditions and take care of their livestock as well.

According to the PMD, rain-wind/thunderstorm with few heavy falls are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Bunner, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Waziristan, Dra Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 16th (evening/night) to 20th April with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorm may also occur during the forecast period.

Dust/thunderstorm-rain is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Khushab, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh on 16th (evening) and from 18th (evening/night) to 20th April (morning). Isolated hailstorm may also occur during the forecast period.

Duststorm/gusty winds are also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Multan, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Pakpattan Sharif, Vehari and Okara on 18th & 19th April.
