BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and top Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya have discussed the latest developments in Gaza and talks aimed at reaching a truce during a meeting, Hezbollah said in a statement.

Nasrallah has received Hamas’s deputy chief Hayya for the meeting, which discussed “the latest security and political developments” in Gaza, according to the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The group said that the two sides held talks over the recent developments in the ongoing talks these days, their atmosphere, and the suggestions presented to reach an end to the treacherous aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.

A senior US official said on Thursday that Hamas had made a pretty important adjustment in its stance over a potential captive release agreement with Israel, hoped that it would lead to an agreement that would be a step to a permanent truce.

Israel and Hezbollah have been trading fire since October across the Israeli-Lebanese border in a conflict that has run in parallel to war in Gaza, raising fears of a major conflict between the heavily armed adversaries.
