ISLAMABAD: While rejecting Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) White Paper, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday said that the current coalition government has reduced the country’s current account deficit by 57 percent in July 2022.

While addressing a news conference along with Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Ishaq Dar said that the world economies are facing recession and challenges due to Russia and Ukraine war.

Ishaq Dar said that currently, Pakistan is facing a budget deficit and a current account deficit. He said that the PTI government had done nothing to improve the country’s economy although they were handed over a stable economy in 2018. He maintained that the inflation ratio in Pakistan was 4.7 percent in 2018.

The finance minister said that the PML-N previous government had ended 18 hours long load shedding to support industries. “We have resolved power issues of our industries to put the country on the path of development,” Dar said.

Dar said Pakistan’s economy was rapidly progressing during PML-N’s previous government. However, the country’s fiscal deficit reached a record level during the PTI regime, Dar said.

Ishaq Dar maintained that the PTI White Paper is based on false figures and has nothing to do with reality. He said PTI tried to misguide people with the white paper. He said that the country’s receivables declined during the PTI government. “Medicines’ prices increased by 500 percent during PTI government,” Dar said.
