KARACHI: Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Alfred Granas on Monday said his country is the member of NATO and its stance on Israel coincides with NATO’s stance.
He was addressing a meeting with the Karachi Council of Foreign Relations (KCFR).
He said Germany has been maintaining strong diplomatic and investment ties with Pakistan for 70 years and considers this region a very important region.
The diplomat said that Germany has given US $ 150 million in aid to Pakistan and that Germany’s balance of trade with Pakistan is favourable to both countries.
Germany has been collaborating with Pakistan in the electronics, medical, and environmental fields. He added that Germany is now closing down nuclear energy and shifting to renewable energy.
Answering to a question he said supplying weapons to Ukraine is not against the constitution of Germany. He went on to say that Germany is the member of NATO its stance on Israel coincides with NATO’s stance.
The Ambassador replying to a question that it is not correct to say that European leaders don’t think for themselves and do what America tells them to do.
United Nations is not ending
He said Germany’s point of view on Israel’s statement that the United Nations is ending, is that the end of the United Nations can only occur when all of its members decide to quit the global body and that is something he did not see.
In replying to another question, he said that a lot of efforts from their Ministry of Energy had been made by arranging LNG and alternate energy from neighboring countries.
The Chairperson of KCFR, Nadira Panjwani, highlighted the robust cooperation between Germany and Pakistan. She welcomed the Ambassador and spoke about the historically friendly and stable ties between the two countries.
She paid homage to iconic German personalities like Dr Annemarie Schimmel and Dr Ruth Pfau who have rendered valuable services to Pakistan.
