BERLIN: German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock has summoned Iran’s envoy to Berlin in Germany for the second time in the week over a rash of executions by Tehran, her spokesperson said.
Christofer Burger, the spokesperson, confirmed the move when asked about reports an envoy had been summoned over massive violations of human rights and the wave of executions.
Iran said that it executed the British Iranian dual national sentenced to death for spying for United Kingdom (UK), drawing strong condemnation from Western governments and global rights groups.
Alireza Akbari was hanged after the being convicted of corruption and harming the country’s external and internal security by passing on intelligence.
Mizan said that Akbari, who had been arrested more than two years ago, had been spy for the MI6 secret intelligence agency of Britain and received around $2 million for his services.
Rishi Sunak, British Prime Minister, said he was “appalled” by the execution.

Iran has been rocked by the protests that erupted in Sept 2022. death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, after Amini arrest for the alleged breach of the Iran dress code for women.
Eighteen citizens have been sentenced to death in connection with the protests, and four have been executed.
The previous Monday, France, and Germany summoned Iran’s respective envoys in protest against Tehran’s crackdown on a demonstrations and the latest executions of anti-regime protesters.
