BERLIN: Germany on Thursday praised Pakistan’s role as a mediator in regional conflicts, particularly efforts concerning tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, according to the German Federal Foreign Office.
In a post on X, the German Foreign Office said Germany appreciated Pakistan’s role as a “reasonable mediator” in regional conflicts, specifically highlighting the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.

The statement followed a meeting between German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the war in Ukraine and agreed on the need to resume negotiations aimed at achieving peace.
“Germany appreciates Pakistan’s role as a reasonable mediator in regional conflicts, especially in the Strait of Hormuz & Bab el-Mandeb,” the German Foreign Office said.
It added that Wadephul and Dar agreed that efforts should be made to get negotiations for peace in Ukraine under way.
The remarks underscore Germany’s recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in regional conflicts and its efforts to facilitate dialogue between parties amid wider international tensions.
