FRANKFURT: German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht plans to quit, German media reported on Friday. The German newspaper Bild claimed that the defense minister had decided to tender her resignation but did not mention the time of her exit.

A defence ministry spokesperson termed the news report as “rumours” and said that they don’t comment on it. The news report comes as defense minister Scholz is under pressure to accept an increase in international military assistance for Kyiv to help it repel Russian troops from Ukraine.
She has been blamed for failing to get the German army back in shape quickly despite a one hundred-billion-euro special package being agreed on for that purpose after Russia attacked Ukraine.
