GCC Countries to Introduce Unified Tourist Visa

MUSCAT: Interior ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states have unanimously approved the introduction of a unified Gulf tourist visa.

During their 40th meeting, held in the Muscat, Oman, the ministers also gave the green light for the launch of an electronic system linking traffic violations.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi said that the unified tourist visa scheme, to be implemented within a specific timetable, was another sign of increased cooperation between the Gulf countries.

The ministers also directed the formulation of a council strategy to combat drugs and reviewed security awareness campaigns.

GCC countries receive recognition

Albudaiwi said that GCC states had received regional and global recognition for their progress on security issues.

He said that making these accomplishments need securing a high level of national security, and ensuring the deterrence of any dangers that may impede the region’s development.

He highlighted the growing threat posed by illegal drugs to communities in GCC countries, and appreciated several national campaigns launched in the region to tackle the problem.

Albudaiwi said that combating drugs needs everyone to work together to confront its spread among the youth of the GCC nations according to a unified strategy that addresses all fronts like prevention, control, and treatment.
