KARACHI: Saira Jabeen received emotional messages from family and friends after making her international debut for Pakistan women’s national cricket team in the first T20I against Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team at Karachi’s National Stadium on May 12.
The young all-rounder from Pakistan’s scenic Kalash Valley described her selection for the national side as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
“I became very happy when I was selected for the Pakistan women’s team. I worked hard for it,” Saira said in a video message.
She also thanked her parents, siblings and friends for supporting her cricket journey.
“My dream became a reality because of my family’s support,” she said.
Saira’s mother expressed pride over her daughter’s achievement, saying, “My daughter became a player. I am thankful to God.”
“I pray that she progresses in her career,” she added.
Friends who grew up playing cricket with Saira in Kalash also shared messages of encouragement and pride.
“Saira and we played cricket from childhood. We wish her good luck,” one friend said.
“We are excited and we are sure she will make Pakistan proud. We are thankful to PCB for providing opportunities,” another friend added.
According to available match statistics, Saira scored five runs on her debut against Zimbabwe and struck one boundary during her brief innings.
Her rise from the remote Kalash Valley to Pakistan’s national women’s team has drawn attention on social media, with many praising her determination and the growing opportunities for women’s cricket in Pakistan.
